century of Progress shift knob
Is there a 1933 century of Progress shift knob from the 1933 chicago world's fair or only a 1934 version.
Is this a real item sold at the worlds fair, or just a made up item? |

Re: century of Progress shift knob
The ‘33 shift knob is a made up item, Ford had no presence at the first Century Of Progress exposition, it was only when the fair was held over for a second year that Ford got involved. The 1933 medallion was produced to commemorate Ford’s thirty years in business. A 1934 shift knob will have the Rotunda building on the medallion, but be advised that it has been reproduced.

Re: century of Progress shift knob
I saw a 1933 century of progress shift knob that does not say ford. But supposedly it fits a ford. Can that be authentic? who knows?

Re: century of Progress shift knob
As far as I know, and I have an extensive Worlds Fair collection (but not everything), there may have been gear shift knobs sold by the other automotive manufacturers during the 1933 Chicago Worlds Fair, but, I do not believe there was an insert in one like Ford did for 1934 when they were at the Fair.
You have to realize that there were no licensing agreements like there are today, and because of that, anyone who got hold of the logo could have manufactured something. This is similar to the t-shirt stands that pop up during championship sports games today....similar items, but not licensed by the organization holding the event. And with all things that maybe questionable, a picture is more than welcome to see what you are asking about. |

If that is the one on EBAY,is bogus. That seller makes up knobs and puts the '33 Century of Progress coin in it. He does a decent job. There is a genuine "34 knob now on EBAY up for bid $24.99. Here it is: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1934-Ford-B...d/174030856262 |
