Default Timers

My 15 touring came with a New Day timer.Found a broken spring on brush causing it to missfire. Repaired with a ball point pen spring and has been working fine. In replacing unit is a New Day a good unit or is there a better unit that is reliable. I want to carry spare assy.

You can get the internal pieces from snyders, but I don’t think new ones are made any more. Our family has been using them for almost 70 yrs and think they are the best ones to have.
I have bought used spares from eBay and remachined them.
IMO

New day timers are pretty good, so if you find a replacement one, you may wont to consider it.

The Anderson Timer is also excellent. They tend to run slightly more advanced than the New Day, so you may have to re-bend the timing rod.

I agree. New Day is the best. I too pick them up at swap meets when I can find them. The old roller types are prone to wear.

The roller type of timers work pretty good as well.

Thanks everyone.I'll keep my eyes open for the old originals heard they are harder material and won't wear down as easy.

The Anderson timer does not have a roller. It has a 'flapper'. Much better than the original Ford with the roller.

A fellow/friend in Spokane, WA has produced a very nice copy of the New Day Timer - just installed one our '19 Centerdoor but due to weather conditions haven't got to take her out to try it out yet !

Not the Snyder's repro - the good one is from Tip Top Timers in Spokane, WA, I believe.

It is important with the original roller style timer to align the front cover with the cam shaft. There are tools available to do that. If you don't, the roller will not spin concentrically, and will chew into the insulation. I've been there. The new day style would seem less prone to this if the cover is out of alignment.
