help identify this trans.it is 3sp.toploader Serial no fits 1940 it is short shaft with yoke for open d.s.Cliff transbytip

Maybe an older conversion...I think just shaft, rear housing and yoke are needed to convert from closed to open.

A better pic of the whole box would help, but It does look like a stock 3 speed, with some sort of industrial or marine conversion. I don't think that setup is a standard ford setup from a truck. The box may be able to be converted back to a conventional closed driveline.

It was probably designed for some vehicle because it has a speedometer drive.

3 speed top loader from a 3/4 ton truck, 1940 and up. the rear mount and open drive line give it away. This is what is in my 41 3/4 . Same mount is used in open driveline 4 speed trans also 1940 up, this is what is in my 41 1 1/2 ton and my 1951 1 1/2 ton. these 78 cases were the ones that the old racers wanted--thicker bottoms and could be converted to closed driveline

Thanks for the info, would I presume that would have been the "light duty" option in a 3/4 ton??
