Kube,
Any updates on your decision(s) on the fuel tank? |

Re: Fuel tank dipping & sealing opinions welcome
Just working on it moments ago. I did the acetone thing twice. The second time, it came out nearly as clear as it went in. A good sign methinks.
Dropped a chain in there and tumbled that around for quite some time. Applied compressed air with a long tube attached so as to reach within the tank as far as possible. I can no longer get anything to come out of the tank. Looking in there, it appears quite clean actually. My gut is telling me no more sealer in the future. I do plan on placing a rather strong magnet near the fuel pickup to attract errant rust flakes which surely will show up. Not a 100% fix but may keep me rolling longer between filter changes. I remain open to advice...

Re: Fuel tank dipping & sealing opinions welcome
Getting stuff out of a tank with baffles is near impossible but those that don't aren't bad. When a person purchases standard kits for slosh sealer, they only have enough material to do a small tank. The key is having enough phosphoric acid and water remover (ie alcohol) to get the corrosion and water contaminants completely out. If sealer isn't used then some form of material would have to be used to passivate the inner surfaces. Phosphate based coatings are about the only thing available.
If a person has a tern tank then they could replate the whole thing but most folks wouldn't even think about that since it's basically unobtainium unless they have a solder wave machine and love to take risks. Plating it with zinc would be something else but not easy inside the tank. |
