After market radios
I'm tired of driving around without music - my '52 is radio delete - still 6 volt - I've read that some guys on here have newer radios with 12 volt batteries for power - can you share how you did this? And how you maintain power to the battery. Thanks

Re: After market radios
The solid state guts from a standard later model radio will fit in the giant chassis of the early ones so some folks go that route. Some folks get their 6-volt units repaired and add an MP3 player through the antenna connector plug to get it to play more modern tunes.
Turnswitch has replacement speakers for the old cars. You can check their web site out. |

Re: After market radios
Simplest and cheapest way is with a 6-12 volt converter. I have a '35 and ' a '36 both are 6 volt systems. I use a 12 volt converter to play a modern 12 volt radio. These converters have been trouble free for years. If you get a chance check this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Model-A...tWKXUh&vxp=mtr

Re: After market radios
This new modern stuff is way over my head- hoping to hang something under the dash and stick a couple speakers under the seats.

Re: After market radios
Does these inverter/radio set ups have much of a "draw" on the battery/generator??
Again I'm not that in tuned in this electronic stuff - I'm a nut & bolt type of guy - lol!!

Re: After market radios
A converter will work, but the easiest is a standalone unit of some type like adileo posted. No mod to the car at all and it has it's on battery.

Re: After market radios
I put in a 6 volt + to 12 volt - converter and hooked it to the original cigar lighter. Then I bought a portable compact disc player and a Bluetooth speaker that way I can play my old CD's. Works great. Plus I can run the GPS and charge the wife's phone. Some of the newer CD players have FM radios in them, I may go with one of them as my original AM radio doesn't do too good unless you can see the radio tower.
I can stash the whole thing in the glove box. |

Re: After market radios
I had a 6 volt portable CD/AM-FM player - plugged into the cigar lighter and worker pretty good - some engine interferance but CD was good. It was very old and used - finally quit working. Been trying to find another one without luck.

Re: After market radios
So you have the Bluetooth speaker mounted somewhere and it just plugs into the smart phone I guess? I have neither right now is why I'm asking.

Re: After market radios
The Bluetooth speaker works the same way the hands-free devices work that you see people have sticking in their ear. Wireless...... Mark

Re: After market radios
"Bluetooth" is the name for wireless connections to cellphones and similar devices. The phones is set to connect to "Bluetooth" devices and any devices with the technology that is within range automatically connects. "Bluetooth" enabled devices include both transmitters (such as cellphones or other music playing devices) and receivers (such as speakers or headphones).
"Created in 1994, Bluetooth® technology was conceived as a wireless alternative to data cables by exchanging data using radio transmissions. The name Bluetooth came from a tenth century Danish King, Harald Blåtand or, in English, Harold Bluetooth." "One of the most popular applications for Bluetooth historically has been wireless audio—headsets and hands-free connectivity in cars to wireless speakers and headphones that stream music from your phone or tablet. This uses a version of Bluetooth that is optimized for sending a steady stream of high quality data (i.e. music) in a power efficient way." "Bluetooth can wirelessly connect devices together. It can connect your headset to your phone, car or computer. It can connect your phone or computer to your speakers. Best of all? It can connect your lights, door locks, TV, shoes, basketballs, water bottles, toys—almost anything you can think of—to an app on your phone." "for consumers, it really can’t get any easier. You go to settings, turn on your Bluetooth, hit the pairing button and wait for it start communicating." Devices that will work together have a symbol like this on them or on the packaging somewhere: Last edited by JSeery; 05-11-2016 at 07:25 AM. |

Re: After market radios
Go to www.tracfone.com they have two reconditioned Android phones for $9.99 with bluetooth and wifi, both phones support memory cards, get yourself a 32gb memory card and fill it with music. You don't need to activate the phone to use it for music, you can also take pictures/video with it at car shows.
Bonus I use the GPS features when traveling. |
