sidemounts
were side mounts an option in 29 and what was the logic if any for not having a deluxe phaeton in 29?

Re: sidemounts
From what little I know. Ford dealers would add a single or pair of side mounts per customer request for a nominal cost. Model-A pick-up trucks
and some commercial type body styles (i.e. sedan delivery, etc.) would come from the factory with a single side mount. Also, 2-dr. deluxe phaetons and 400A convertible sedans never left the factory with a rear mounted spare. Passenger cars normally did not come from the factory with a side mount(s). Except for the two models mentioned above. However, I do believe in 1931 Ford offered deluxe roadsters from the factory with a single side mount and trunk rack as stock. In order to help sell the cars. As to why Ford did not sell any 1929 2-dr. deluxe phaetons....probably because nobody thought of the design until 1930. I'm pretty sure there is more than one modern custom built '28-'29 2-dr. deluxe phaeton out there....... Bob-A |

I believe fender mount could be ordered for factory installation. Usually, factory-installed fender mounts have the support arm riveted to the frame while dealer-installed are bolted. AFAIK (no doubt someone will correct if wrong), commercial A had only fender-mount while AA had fender, body-side, or under body/frame mount depending on body style. For whatever reason, sales of open cars dropped off in 1930. In an effort to stimulate demand, Ford offered the Deluxe Phaeton, followed by the Deluxe Roadster, starting in mid-1930. The 1930 Deluxe Roadster had a left fender mount, luggage rack, and full-width rear bumper. These were discontinued as standard equipment in 1931 but were available as an option. |

Prone to have flats so if he had more than 2 flats he could repair them at home. |
