Default Cab Mounting Bolts question....

HELLO all....

HALLELUJAH, I finally got the Cab sitting on the chassis on my '36 Ford pickup. Been waiting a long time for this moment. I purchased the Cab Mounting Hardware (Hex Head Bolts, Carriage Bolts, Compression Springs, Washers, Castle Nuts with Cotter Pins) from Roy. Question is what is the purpose of the Springs and are they really required.

Please let me know back your thoughts on them.

Thank you,

Bruce in California

The frame "flexes". Spring allows for this movement. Is there a reason to not use the springs?

Tinker,

Using the correct wood Cab Mounting Blocks and webbing between wood blocks and frame rails, the Hex Head Bolts seem a little too short. The end of the Hex Head Bolts are even with the bottom of the Springs and can not seem to compress enough to get the flat washer and get the castle Nut started.

That would present a problem. Did you give a call to Roy?

You might try and put the spring in a vice and compress it, then use it. Might take some of the "new spring tension" out of it and might give you a little room.

One trick is to put the spring in a vise and tie each side with small safety wire while compressed. Then install and cut wire after nut is on a few threads. You can pull the wire out of the spring once cut.

Ralph M,

THANK YOU for your idea, sounds doable.

Had not contacted Roy back yet, just looking for thoughts and ideas for now.
