That is the correct orientation of the steering arm. It is not to be bent inline with the axle.

This question brings to mind a subject that I have mentioned many times before, which is that maybe all of the aftermarket, bolt on arms (intended for use with 37-48 spindles) have the drag link pivot hole DIRECTLY over the axle at straight-ahead, which on a 32-34 causes the drag link to be too long, with the result that when the steering is on center, the front wheels are actually turning LEFT, and which also means the when the front wheels are going straight-ahead, the steering is not centered. The result is SLOP at straight ahead that no amount of adjusting can cure... I bet MANY otherwise good
steering gears have been condemned after having one of those adaptors
installed. We ALWAYS use the original spindles on 32-34's because that keeps the (properly-oriented) arm, and the above situation is avoided. We still make adjustable drag-links for fine-tuning BUT the original arm also keeps
the 90-degree angle between the arm and the drag-link at straight-ahead, so there is equal steering in each direction.
