2013 MAFCA National Tour Last Update
Well the tour is only a few weeks away and registration is now closed. Looks like about 190 cars and 400 people. If anyone has had any trouble with getting a room at the hotels, or is unclear on trailer parking, please let me know and as always, more information can be found on www.mafcablueridgetour.com

Re: 2013 MAFCA National Tour Last Update
FYI. The Blue Ridge Parkway is closed north of Asheville from Mount Mitchell to Craggy Gardens. Don't know if it will be reopened in time for the tour or not. You may have to take a long detour. A section of the road fell off the side of the mountain last year and they have been rebuilding it all winter.
Good luck to all on the tour. Be sure that, at the very least, your brakes and steering are in the best condition that you can BEFORE the tour. The Blue Ridge Parkway is the BEST Model A road in the world!!!!!!! See you in Asheville. Last edited by Richard Wilson; 04-09-2013 at 11:03 AM. Reason: additional comment |

The National Park Service is listing that the road should be reopened by mid April. Cross your fingers that the government gets a job done on time.

Re: 2013 MAFCA National Tour Last Update
The Houston Club has a group of about 10 cars driving up from Gatlinburg to Charlottesville on Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5, primarily using US highways. We are leaving trailers and tow vehicles in Gatlinburg before heading north.
Feel free to contact me if you would like to join us. It can be fun (and reassuring) to run with a group of other A's. Either way, see you all on the tour!

Forgot to mention that the registration table will open up on Sunday at noon. Don't forget that the trailer parking for gatlinburg is now in pigeon forge.

"US Hwy 441/Newfound Gap Rd from Gatlinburg, TN to Cherokee, NC is now open with no restrictions." Look at that, mid-April!

Re: 2013 MAFCA National Tour Last Update
BRP is still closed from Mount Mitchell to Craggy Gardens. It will be a problem for the tour if it is not open. I hope that they get this section rebuilt in time for the tour as it is one of my favorite sections. Also hope the tour participants take time to drive the 4.5 miles up to the summit of Mount Mitchell. Highest peak east of the rockies at 6684 feet.
Hwy 441 is just a regular highway and not part of the BRP. It is the main tourist road from Cherokee Indian Reservation over to Gatlinburg so we are thankful that it is open. It took 3,000 dump truck loads of fill to bring the short section that washed away back up to road level. According to local news reports, the Cherokee Indian Reservation paid a $500,000 bonus for early completion to the contractor to complete repair before spring tourist season. Re: 2013 MAFCA National Tour Last Update
I also received word that 441 was now open 30 days early. That's a big load off my mind. The national park service still list that the section of the blue ridge that is closed is supposed to reopen before the tour. Just crossing our fingers.
