Default Carburetor inlet threads leak

I have a Zenith carburetor that has boogered threads in the inlet. I tried the yellow sealing tape, that didn't help. I used some Teflon paste, and that didn't work. Tomorrow I will try both together. Any ideas how to get this
thing to seal? Silicone around the outside after it is tightened as much as it can be?

The fuel inlet to the carb uses a little brass ferrule that slides onto the steel tubing to seal it. The nut does not actually seal the connection. The nut presses the ferrule tightly into the carb to seal.

So if the line leaks, you probably need a new ferrule on the fuel line. Look at the outside of the ferrule for a deep groove that may indicate it will not seal again. When tightened up, the ferrule is supposed to clamp down on the tubing to seal there, too. You may not be able to get it off of the tubing, in which case you will need to buy a new fuel line.

No sealant or tape should be needed on these fuel lines. I sometimes use a light coating of sealant on the ferrule to ensure a good connection so that does not weep gas.

I hope this helps.

The threads on the inlet don't seal. it is the ferrule to taper that seals. The taper in your cover may need to be cleaned up or ferrule is bad. You can clean the taper up with a small ball type stone.

The ferrule did not leak with my other carburetor....so cleaning up the taper in the cover may be the solution. I will look at it tomorrow. Thanks.

I have never tried it, but I have seen it said (often) that a Dremel 911 aluminum oxide stone will clean up the inside taper on the carb. Those stones are available almost everywhere.

If ALL else fails, Permatx (sp?) #2 is fuel resistant / proof.

Might try a new fuel line with provided fittings before resorting to band aid fixes -IMHO.

I have not tried this but I read that you can carefully put teflon tape on the tapered ferrel and then screw the fitting in. Has anybody tried this with any success?

I have two Model A Zenith carbs for rebuilds, one has striped threads (will not tighten) and the other someone has tapped and threaded the inlet too large, these are both on the gas inlet threads, what fixes are they, or are they junk?
