My grandfather sold A's new.He told me that the reason for their survival over others through the scrap drives was mainly two things.1. Gm bodies were wood framed, and when the roof leaked the cars fell apart. With the A's if you screwed a little bit of metal roofing on you could make them last with the minimal amount of wood in most of the cars. 2. Fuel mileage. He said you could pull 16-18 MPG out of a worn A if you were careful, but only 10-12 out of a worn GM or Mopar. So the GM's and Mopars got dropped on Germany of Japan and the A's stayed home working. That 4-8 MPG difference was of huge importance then.A 90 year old man in town tells of hauling Packards,Caddys,Lincolns, etc.to the rail siding by horse teams so as not to use the gas to get them there.People donated cars by the dozen here to the cause.

If it's a 1930 there's no date stamp on the firewall and engine numbers don't tell an exact date. However, I do like your celebrating anyway. I think I'll celebrate my 28-29 car's birthdays

The engine was stamped 80 years today. So the birth of the Truck started today . Then the next few weeks it started growing. Down the assembly track it went. In a few months it was off and running for the next 80 Years.

My engine # 3975783 was also stamped 80 years ago today. It is installed in an early 31 roadster. The engine number is on the title, so believe it is also on the frame. When I get it painted, I'll check the engine number with the frame number. Not sure just what month 31 year production began.

Good Ford developed metallurgy, crazy overuse of forgings, and bonderized paint are I think other factors in the Ford survival rate.
