I had 6th graders, after learning how to use Photoshop, solving complex vector problems by mapping them using an on screen compass in a Photoshop layer. I had 7th graders exploring the effect of environmental changes on populations by using an African savanna simulator; and 8th graders using 3D modeling software to build atomic and molecular models. You would hate my house. It is heavily automated and controlled by voice requests to "Alexa". Even though this is a long post, it would take pages and pages for me to list all important things (like the Ford Barn) we would not have if it were not for computers. They are no more confusing, mysterious, or hard to to use, than the many systems of a model A Ford are to a non car person. It is all about knowledge and experience. Whew! all done! "Alexa, computer room off!" Last edited by pgerhardt; 01-21-2017 at 02:45 PM. |

Re: Computer Hack Warning
Sorry to hear Tom.
I've had multiple gmail addresses and never had one problem with any of them. Google keeps it pretty tight for sure!

Re: Computer Hack Warning
I set up a Gmail address as an emergency backup a couple years ago, but haven't used it. When I tried to get in yesterday it tells me the password is wrong.

I don't have a cell phone or a smart phone or Facebook or Twitter or any of that. I figure I got by over 60 years without it why do I have to have it now? The people selling all of that try to convince you that you need it. My Yahoo e-mail was hacked twice in the last year or so. Guess I shouldn't keep clicking on the 'You've won a lottery' stuff I constantly get from Mambo Escargot that Prince from Nirobi that says he's a long lost friend and wants to give me money He SOUNDS legit................. |

Re: Computer Hack Warning
Sorry to hear Thomas, I hope nothing else was badly compromised except the terrible inconvenience it is when these things happen.

Re: Computer Hack Warning
Tom, just now went to check my e-mail and there was a 'Thank you for ordering a survey map from the USGS.' From 'Business Partners, Inc." Deleted not opened.
Problem being I never ordered a Topographical Map. I looked for one on E-Bay last week but never ordered one. They evidently are hacking into E-Bay when you look there a virus is attaching to your computer. |

Re: Computer Hack Warning
I use a WD (Western Digital) "My Passport" drive that plugs into my computer's USB port to back up my computer stuff. I go to my "C" drive and select all the files on that drive and then backup them on my WD drive(which unplugs from my computer). I let it run overnight and by morning all files on my C drive are copied onto the WD drive. I have two WD drives which I alternate. Then I store the new copy off site and bring the off site one back to use next time. Could do it every day but I do it every month. Thus only loose a months worth of info if porblems.

Re: Computer Hack Warning
Last night I tried to open my hotmail account but Microsoft, smartasses as they are have moved everything over to outlook and now I can't access anything. The change came without warning or notification. Why do they keep plating around with things. Have they never heard "If it iant broke...."
