Default pin substitute

The pin that holds the oil pump gear on the middle shaft is rather bent up and I'd like to replace it. Getting a new one here is a bit complicated. What would be a suitable substitute - hard enough to not bend but not too brittle so we can forge a shop head.

When I first got my Model A, the pins holding the advance and throttle levers on the bottom of the rods were pieces of nails worked to fit.
Others will have ideas too but the nails worked there for years.

But this is an internal engine part and could do some damage if it let loose

Hadn't thought of roll pins. I'll have to look to see if I can get them here.

I thought of a piece of stainless welding rod.

I would use a roll pin, drill out the hole and select a pin that will fit, I believe it is 1/8 I would go to the next size up, the new drive gears are 1 piece now and come in 3 sizes to take up wear.

When I first took
One apart it had a nail holding things together. I replaced it with a roll pin I got from the local hardware store.
