It's Friday. Time for a Flathead video. Crusty Flatty Pt.15.
Hi. You, yes, YOU are cordially invited to join me in the garage to check the progress on the Crusty Flatty rebuild. Part 15, in which I overcome the conundrum of the 45 thou pistons and start prepping some of the other parts. The lathe gets pressed into service once more.
If you enjoy the videos please give me a sub, and respond to this post. Thanks for looking. Mart. https://youtu.be/K41dcMScQxY |

What fun! Curious, how did you trim the liners flush with the deck? Do you have a mill?

Re: It's Friday. Time for a Flathead video. Crusty Flatty Pt.15.
Hi Russ. I have a milling machine but it is not big enough to take a whole flatty. I showed the method for trimming the liners in a previous video. It's at the 39 minute mark in part 10.
Basically I hand feed the boring machine to take it as far down as I dare and then hand file them flush. Here's a link: https://youtu.be/AtBJmnhoYqA |

More progress and more fun watching. Did you video the steps of grinding down the cylinder liners for the intake and exhaust valley. Just curious how that went and how long it took?

That process is covered in next weeks episode. It wasn't difficult and didn't take long. I recently bought a die grinder and a selection of carbide burrs. I did a job that I was happy with for this engine. I suspect some might prefer something a bit smoother, but I am happy with it. I say all that, but I did make a couple of little slips that I wasn't too pleased with. It's all in the next vid. Mart. |

I agree! we're not going to let you stop these little ventures.
Usually, when I'm in my easy chair, my wife yells at me to turn off the sound on my tablet. With your videos, she says not a word. I think she's getting a crush on you Mart. |

I definitely enjoy your videos. You’ve inspired to make my own, though I haven’t posted them up yet.

Haha. During the stud removal tap-tap-tap my honey-pie got a little tense... Didn't stop me from enjoying!

You want to try editing it. You have to watch everything at least ten times over.

I'd guess after the filming and editing the actual work on the flathead seems the easy part! Well done,Mart.

I love anything DIY like Mart does, I just watched the Model A Roadster at the vintage drags, it was epic! 8^)
I am disappointed about one thing however... I've never hear you say "Bob's your uncle".
