Default Water Pump

What would indicate that my water pump is operating correctly?
Are there any obvious signs that it isn't?

As long as it turns and the impeller isn't rusted away plus it isn't screaming like a banshee, I think it is OK.

just an FYI.
i have had water pumps that others have "rebuilt", 3 of those would not accept grease on the impeller side. the reason is that whom ever inserted the shaft bushing on those pumps never lined up the grease hole. beware of this if you are rebuilding your pump.
if you have a pump that will not accept grease at that fitting it is an easy fix.
remove the water pump, remove the fan blade, remove the key, slide out the shaft. next find the correct size of drill bit and drill the hole down through the bushing.
note though i have found the hole size is different at the top than it is at the bottom, i don;'t know why. i drill to the most inner smaller size hole.

The threaded hole for the grease nipple is tapered pipe thread.

that it is.
but inside the water pump casting near the bushing the inner hole drops to a smaller size. i am guessing to limit the amount of grease passing through it.
all i am saying is don't drill too large of a hole into the bushing.
