SD rear headliner wood?
On my 56 SD at the top of the rear door there was what appeared to be a wooden slat. Upon taking it out it does not seem to be wood but something else. Anyway what would you replace this with? Enclosed pic or where it goes and the piece itself.

Re: SD rear headliner wood?
Tack strips are generally a form of hard pressed paper like material. A lot of headliners are held with nothing but contact cement and others are held by metal barb strips that pierce the fabric but some may be tacked or stapled to a strip like that. A lot of the door surround trim pieces will cover stuff like this so that it can't be seen after trimming is done.
Some folks use a thick vinyl material to replace the paper type tack strips but most of the cars that use tack strips are convertible types. I'm sure there are exceptions to that though. |

Re: SD rear headliner wood?
I don't remember the strip on my '55 Courier too well, but I remember that I was able to re-use mine. I think it is a thick cut piece of masonite. If you can't re-use yours, why not try cutting two 1/4" thick pieces of tempered masonite and glueing them together.

Do not think it is Masonite. It appears to be a wrapped something or other. It is multi layers similar to a paper shipping tube. I believe is it as rotorwrench said paper. I may try a strip of soft pine and see if that works.

It is held in place by tabs that are right where the black line is in the pic. The piece fits just below the black line.
