Default Looking at 63 Galaxie

Folks,
I’m looking at a 63 Galaxie 2 door with a 390 & 4 speed. Is there anything on these models I should look out for? Any weak points for rust etc?
Thanks

You say 1963. The 1963 had a BOX TOP (2DR). The 1963 1/2 had a FAST BACK (2DR).

As for jungle rot, the usual places, floor pans, rocker, lower door skin, quarters, trunk pan and lower front fender. Take a small magnet with you to find any bondo.

It would be best to put it on a lift to check for any damage and/or rust maggots.

What area is the car located in?

All fords will rust down in the low entrapment areas. It takes X-ray vision to tell what has been done to any old car over the years. I have a life long fondness for the 1963 Galaxie models. They were natural born race cars and the Galaxie 500 XL 2-dr fast back hard top that came out in mid production is a hell of a car but the box tops were every bit as good in function.

A friend of mine had a 4-dr that he tried to kill several times but was only moderately successful. He damaged a 9-inch rear axle after the 390 went in and he traded a T85 R11 overdrive transmission for a super T-10 4-speed. I was with him several times when he took some S-turn dirt roads at 80 MPH. That car really hugged the road well. He eventually went on to a 1964 Galaxie 500 XL fast back but he swore it wasn't quite the same as that old 63.

This link looks good. http://www.mercurystuff.com/1963-gal...-canadian.html

As far as I can tell, the 1BB is defined as 1= single color overall and BB= Raven Black.

The 614 is a red color trim. CA is for 223 6-cylinder. The serial is the linear number. For 662B the 6= 6-cylinder and 62B is for Galaxie 2-door sedan body type. 63 is the year and L is for left hand drive.

The rockers may have been galvanized by 1963. Usual spots were the lower front fender rear lower quarters and rear bumpers and of course the floors in areas that use road salt.
