Re: rideing the running boards
I rode 7 miles one night squirting gas from a french's mustard bottle in the carb of an A.Slow ride, but we got home.I rode over 20 miles perched on the rear bumper of a Volkswagen one night. The throttle cable had broken and I was the throttle man.Driver steered and shifted and I controlled the speed. When you're young and have no money you do what you have to to get home. Both of those adventures were in the early 70's.

Re: rideing the running boards
I am reminded of the time an old guy pointed to a scar & said something to the effect of
"You think you've done some exciting things? I got this while riding the running boards of 2 1936 fords at 85 MPH on 90 mile beach. One when one way, the other went the other way."

Re: rideing the running boards
We use to drive my Triumph car by pulling the choke out laying on the roof and steering through the window

Re: rideing the running boards
When I was much younger (about 1957) in the town of Albert Kansas we had some farmer boys from a few miles down south come to town one night. They had a 30 coupe with 3 in the front seat. Four of us jumped on the running boards and one in the rumble seat. They took out to a dirt road a couple miles out and tried to throw us off by shifting from low to reverse several times. We all held on. They finally gave up and took us back to town but the rear end was sure making a clicking noise. Serves them right.

Re: rideing the running boards
Just had a local teenager prosecuted for manslaughter when his buddy slid off the roof of the car while surfing in the school parking lot.
