Default 60 engine hot rod stops by .........

This stopped by the house today. Pretty neat little hot rod , built by Johnie Parsons to drive to work in 1942... 60 flathead with edmunds two single barrel intake, mechanical 39 brakes and a 26-27 narrowed T body. Was just restored with all parts left as is ( or was)....

Really cool, especially since the war was raging and scrap metal drives were going on.

Yep , me too . There wasnt any billett, mustang two front ends etc in my neighborhood. Most were unpainted and used affordable junk yard parts etc...and they were driven. I remember a shop owner pulled a small fishing boat with a yellow model a. Had a 283 v8 engine in it and the stock drive train etc. Home made cycle fenders etc. I was hitch hiking home one day and he picked me up. Rode about 8 miles or so, most exciting ride i had ever had in a car....

times were so different back in the 40's and 50's--here in Ma we had to run cycle fenders, and a working e-brake was required-stuffing your echo cans with steel wool was a common practice in order to get a sticker.

Racing career
Parsons first raced in open wheel cars on the West Coast of the United States in a midget car. He won the 1942 season championship in the United Midget Association. He won 18 feature events in the abbreviated season.[2] Parsons began racing in the AAA after World War II. He captured the third feature in the 1948 Night Before the 500 midget race at the 16th Street Speedway. Parsons finished second in his first Indy 500 in 1949. He won the season championship that season. He also won the 1950 Indianapolis 500. He won the 1955 Turkey Night Grand Prix midget car race.

After he retired, he became the Chief Steward for the USAC Midget division on the West Coast in the 1970s.
