The dampener would come off first I believe, ps pump driven by key on crankshaft. This is all if I remember correctly, been a long time I had the engine from a 68.

How in the world did you figure out he was describing a LINC engine with the limited information provided in the post?

It was just such a odd setup, believe it was a carry over from the MEL days.

Not sure what is being asked here. The pulley does come off the pump. There is a tool to grab the pulley, it is a press fit, the same tool is used to push it back on. The front harmonic balancer on the crank shaft is also pressed on, the pulleys mounted on it come off with four bolts that hold it to the balancer. Are we close with this?

I think the OP is describing a crank driven pump, common to MEL (1958/ ) and continued on the 385 SERIES 460CI LINC install (1968/ ).

I never realized the old MEL's and the '68 Lincoln 460 had a crank driven PS pump. Learn something new every day.

LINC and MARK went to a belt driven pump for the 1970/ model run just for reference.
