Default PVC hose destination

I have 390 in my '61 Galaxie that I am doing a restoration on. I have a twist on oil breather on the LH front area valve cover. In my RH rear grommet I have the PCV valve. Now my question is do I run the hose from the top of the PCV to the carb base OR the underside of the air cleaner? (which I have been doing on a few of my last restorations. Does it make a difference? Which, if any, is better?
