Naming vehicles.
Hey,
I'm sitting here with a cold, trying to entertain myself, and thinking of what I'm gonna name My 1928 AA flatbed. I have always named my vehicles, got that from my Dad, who has had names for his cars all my life. I'm thinking about either Rusty, or Old Rattler, but I'm not sure yet. I'm sure many of you have named cars and trucks, so I thought it would be fun to post pics of our classic vehicle, and tell the name you gave it and why. I only have one Model A, and like I said it is not yet named, but if it is not against the rules of the forum I will post a few pics of some of Me and my Dads other classic cars and trucks, and tell there names.

Re: Naming vehicles.
My '28 roadster is named Daisy Kay after two of the most beautiful and important women in my life, my grandmother and my mom. The other two most beautiful and important women in my life, wife & daughter are content to not have cars named for them. Yet....

Re: Naming vehicles.
When I purchased my first and only Model A in 2014 from a young fella on EBay, I got a pig in a poke. I won the auction, and afterwards couldn't get the teenager to give me any info on the car. I figure he won it in a raffle, cuz the keys had a name and address other than his. I contacted the former owner, who was a politician who owned it for parades, I suppose. Nobody could tell me much.
So I decided to name the car "Oliver", since my car was a bit of an orphan. Then, after a little study, I came to the knowledge that the "A" was known as "Henry's Lady"... a lot classier than the Tin Lizzy. So I named her "Bonnie" after the infamous era gal, Bonnie Parker of Bonie and Clyde. Yes, they died in 1934, in a 1932 Ford V8, but they most likely drove a few "A's" as well. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Chuck

Re: Naming vehicles.
My 1961 Chevy, named Old Waylon, named after a truck my Dad had when I was very little, probably four or five. It has the tailgate off of dad's old Waylon truck. This was my first vehicle, my Dad bought it for me when I was 13 in 1993. My kids call it old Greenie, so I guess it has a name and a nickname, lol.

Dad's Jeep, Old willy, probably one of thousands with that name, haha. It is registered as a 1950, but is made from several jeeps from 1942 to 1950. The engine is a 42, and went to Korea and back in a crate, then was sold at a surplus auction in the 50s.

Re: Naming vehicles.
My coupe is named Henry (not very original but that was what the couple I got him from in '86 called him) My dad's sedan is named Abe (it is painted the same color as his '79 Lincoln)
There was a guy in our club that had an old Graham Brothers Flat bed truck that he called Hardly Able and it had signs on the side "Hardly Able moving and storage company" - I thought it was funny and unique. |

Re: Naming vehicles.
Named my truck Bill after my late uncle that got me into this old rusty iron stuff. I sure do wish he could have seen it.

Re: Naming vehicles.
My first car was a 1936 Ford Tudor that had been sitting for at least 10 years and was pretty rough, but it only cost me $15. We hooked up a tow rope and took off down the alley toward home, hauled by my brother's 50 Ford. After about 50' down the alley I couldn't wait any more so I threw it in second and popped the clutch. It surprised everybody when it started right away, missing and bucking, on ten year-old gas! I got it home, cleaned it up and could get about 10 feet of rubber shifting into second gear.
The kid who had it before me had painted it orange. This was back in the '50s when the local corner store still got their oranges in wooden crates. So then somebody called my car "the Orange Crate" and it stuck. Old friends still ask me about the old Orange Crate! Fun car! Last edited by Cool Hand Lurker; 04-02-2016 at 10:26 AM. Re: Naming vehicles.
I named my 1931 Tudor "Bessie". My cars have always had female names. My 57 Chevy is Betty named after my mom and mother in law. I had a 68 Mustang named Louise. Each had a personality that seemed to fit the name.

Re: Naming vehicles.
The first pic is my '29 "Sport" roadster named The Clown Car. When I mentioned to a fellow FordBarner. About the accessories that I was going to equip the car with. He said it would look like a "cown car", hence
the name. My significant other Suzzane is seating in the passenger seat. Second pic is my '31 deluxe roadster named Virginia. I bought the car in Virginia, it was assembled in Virginia back in '31. My dad was from Virginia and my mother's name was Virginia. So, I named my "patina queen" Virginia. I am sitting behind the wheel with Mr. Fox and Blossom in the pic too. Bob-A |

Re: Naming vehicles.
I named my 31 Coupe, Sarah, it's the only name left that was not a name of an ex-wife.

Re: Naming vehicles.
This is Old Buford, my uncle bought it in the early 1980s, he restored it, and drove it for a while, then it sat for about 10 years. When I was in high school in 1996 I convinced my uncle to let me get it running and driving again. After I worked on it and drove it for a while, on Christmas day 1997 he gave me a Christmas card with a picture of Old Buford in that said merry Christmas, Buford is yours now. I will probably always keep this car, it is one of the vehicles that I can't remember a time when it was not around.
