Default Cooling

I have a '46 Ford with a 350 chevy, new 4" radiator, pulley driven fan that I'd like to convert to an electric fan. Space between the radiator and a long shaft water pump shaft is 2" (very limited), I'd like to put in a 16" pusher fan. Do I retain the pulley driven fan? Do I add a shroud? A personal experience with this issue is appreciated. And any advice is welcomed.

I would ask this on the early V8 general discussion section, but don't mention about the sbc engine. They are more into the original stuff. You could also ask this on the HAMB. JMHO, is the first thing to try is a proper shroud.
