Went to a swap meet today
Went to a neat swap meet this AM, while the wife and I were walking around looking for goodies that said "take me home" my wife spotted a maroon 38 Buick coupe, super nice car. Her comment was, "I can picture myself driving that". Heck, I could picture me driving it. Good thing it was already sold as I'm sure she would have said "I need that". Who could have said NO!
I'm trying hard to hold out for 52-53 Crown Victoria, but man the Buick was nice. |

I grew up in a Buick household, I know how it can be.

Re: Went to a swap meet today
This is the second time in the last month that I have heard a reference to a "53 Crown Victoria". I know about the '55 and '56 Crowns, but I don't remember anything about earlier models. Can someone straighten me out on this?

The first Crown Victoria was made in 1955.

Re: Went to a swap meet today
The 54's were just known as Victorias, not sure about the 53's. Crown Vics were 55's, 56's.

Re: Went to a swap meet today
In 1951 Ford introduced the Victoria 2 dr. hardtop, Fords first hardtop
with NO b-pillar centerpost, and carried it through '52 and '53. In 1954 they came out Crestline Victoria 2 dr. hardtop, and it had an optional green plexiglass in the front roof portion, known as the Skyliner model. As mentioned before, the Crown Victorias were made in 1955 and '56. Then in 1957 Ford intoduced the Fairlane 500 Skyliner, with the retractable roof that would lower, and hide away into the rear trunk area. .

Re: Went to a swap meet today
I thought the Crestline Victoria came out in '53.
This getting old with CRS/CRAFT is getting worse all the time.

Re: Went to a swap meet today
Here are a couple of pics of a `54 Victoria my son owned. He finds a car he likes, buys it and enjoys it for a while and then sells it and looks for something diferent. I am somewhat that way too, but then later regret letting it go. If my memory serves me right this one went to Australia.

Re: Went to a swap meet today
I'm not usually a fan of '54 Fords, but I'd take that one in a heartbeat. The continental kit really works for me. (I usually don't like those either!)

Re: Went to a swap meet today
G'day
This is my second post and I realise this is an old thread but I couldn't help replying given that we bought a '54 Skyliner a few years back, but ours was from Utah and is Kilarney Green over Sandstone White. This is a pretty rare car here in Australia and although I have met a guy that has owned and restored a few Skyliners here, I have not bumped into another one!! It always generates interest and admiring comments, we love the pillarless look, always cool...... |

Re: Went to a swap meet today
When Shadetree posted a picture of his son's 1954 Ford Crestline Victoria, and mentioned that it thought it had been shipped to Australia, I immediately thought of this car. However, it is a different car, as this one originated in Ohio. These early Ford Victorias are very popular imports in recent years. This body style was never offered in Australia, all we got was the Customline 4 door Sedan, plus a Coupe Ute. And i can tell you that not many of these original 1954 Australian Fords survive, so that is why many Aussies go shopping in the USA, as there seem to be an abundant supply of old Fords. The poor exchange rate of the Aussie Dollar compared with the Greenback has showed things down recently. |

Re: Went to a swap meet today
When I was a kid my dad bought a red and white 55 Crown Victoria. I think he paid 100 dollars for it. Beautiful car. (around the same time he bought a 60 corvette for 1200) My brother ran it out of oil and it spun a bearing. Dad put the car on blocks until the early 90s when he sold it. The guy rebuilt the engine and drove it for maybe two weeks and a semi truck plowed into it. Saw it at the tow yard. Still makes me sick. I would love to have one like it.
