Roadster Windshield Stantions
Every since my amateur restoration done when I was 14 and 15 back in the 60's, I have not really been able to drive much with the top down in my standard roadster. The wind would move the windshield back significantly and even make the wing windows dig into the door if you forgot and opened the door.
When I was doing a pilgrimage to Bert's last year I took these pictures of an original stantion. Windshield Stantion.jpg This is a picture of mine. The arrows show how far off the stantion is from contact with the body piece when the windshield is in the proper position with the top up in place. My Windshield Stantion.jpg Do you think that the current stantion can be weld built up so that this prevents the windshield from blowing back? I am not sure what the material is and I think that these were replacement parts from back in the 60's. I have also thought about just using JB Weld to add a small metal part to the body part and painting it, but I know the body attachment is original and I don't like to modify that unless I have to. Buying replacements from Bert's is not an answer for right now. Thanks for any advice. Rich |

Re: Roadster Windshield Stantions
Things to think of...
1. Are the stanchions "magnetic"? 2. If magnetic there either Steel or 400 series SS.. 3. If non-magnetic there either Brass or 300 type of SS,...you then need to figure out which... 4. If non-magnetic,..I'd find a welder with a TIG and weld them up, shape and polish.. this would be for SS.. 5. I don't think JB weld will hold up well, besides,..it will look like crap.. |

Wouldn't it be easier to build up the lower stanchion(s), or find another pair? Bert's might have a pair. I know originals are rare and expensive. What about reversing the stanchions so the windshield folds forward for a temporary fix? David Serrano |

the bottom to stop the windshield from folding BACK. He implied that the cost is a factor. I believe they are SS and should be an easy weld job for a competent welder. Does this make sense? |

Re: Roadster Windshield Stantions
Are you sure that the inside taper is grabbing at all ?
Maybe try a winding of shim material on the taper to check. If the taper is worn or the stanchions taper is a repro and too big , it may not be touching at all, and all that is holding is the flat under the middle. |

Check with A&L. I've been told they have the best closest to originals you can buy. Excellent quality. That may be best in the long run.

had the same problem. take a piece of rubber glue on side molding and put it on top of the metal filler panel that goes across the rear of the gas tank, under the windshield lower rubber.does the job and is invisible. a body shop should have a left over piece that will work perfectly. worked for me.
