1936 trunk gutter gasket question. . . .
i ordered a trunk gasket rubber for my coupe and two pieces came. this surprised me, as mine was missing when i bought the project, so i didn't know what to expect.
i'm guessing the small one goes on the car side in the gutter, but what is the trick around the drain tubes? then the larger of the two goes in the deck lid? it's a trunk BTW. any help or pics would be great, thank you, kurt. |

Re: 1936 trunk gutter gasket question. . . .
I have a '36 Ford 5 win coupe and a '39 Plymouth RS convertible coupe. RS stands for rumble seat.
My 36 coupe, an un-restored/un-molested bodied car, has a seal that goes all the way around the deck lid, the seal in the channel is the short one that does not extend across the lower channel. My 39 Plym has seals/weather stripping that I bought from Drake, the deck lid on my convertible is exactly like a Ford because Ford/Plym used Briggs Bodies on their convertibles. There is no lower drain channel on a RS body, therefore there is no need for weather stripping in the lower section. The long seal goes on the deck lid. Weather stripping in the lower channel would obstruct water flow to the two drain tubes in the channel. There should be two large hoses extending from the lower channel down to the bottom of the rear trunk well.
