Weight of '40 Coupe Body?
Body is disassembled in prep for complete stripping. I have the doors and trunk lid, the weight of which can be subtracted from a good number if those extra parts are included. I want to fly the body using studio grip methods. I've 43 years' experience. Since I'm forced to work outdoors, the winter weather will determine how soon this will happen. Although I expect to be able to determine the best pick points, any tips are welcome. Thanks: Fred A

I'm curious. What is "Fly the body using studio grip methods"? Sounds interesting.

Re: Weight of '40 Coupe Body?
Four of us (me and three middle aged pals) lifted the bare body shell of my 39 coupe off a stand and onto a trailer some years ago. I remember feeling that we were a bit maxed out on the lift. I’d guess something between 400 and 500 lbs but that’s my rough guess.

Re: Weight of '40 Coupe Body?
The term fly to a motion picture studio rigger or grip is a one syllable verb meaning to pick something up. The load rating of the lifting tools is a function of the weight, plus the safety factor. I don't want to damage this body. It is the best one I've ever had. By the time I can accurately weigh the cab it will be flying above the chassis. With Mac's numbers i close in on the hardware needs. Fred A

Re: Weight of '40 Coupe Body?
If my information is correct, Dennis Carpenter and Bob Drake collaborated on making brand new '40 coupe bodies out of steel. You might email them and ask if they know the weight.

Re: Weight of '40 Coupe Body?
I don't yet know how I could get a better number than Mac's. When this thread is beyond dead? As to the sound deadener, 20 pounds must be all since there is none on the floor, dash or remaining on the roof, leaving the quarters and a splash on the cowl. As I posted before there will be picture or pictures, perhaps with DD's help as before. Fred A

Re: Weight of '40 Coupe Body?
We were grabbing under body edges…..using gloves since those were mostly pretty sharp edges. We only moved it about 15-20 feet (from inside my garage out to a trailer in the driveway). I know that I wouldn’t have wanted to carry it much more than that. If one or more of us would have dropped his corner it would have been bad news for the body.

Re: Weight of '40 Coupe Body?
This is getting way too much thinking. I have lifted more coupe bodies than I care to recall. Typically, it's me on the front and two guys on the back.
The body is not terribly heavy.

Re: Weight of '40 Coupe Body?
Can one of these 1940 car or trucks fly into my shop! I think that would be a really neat next project!
Yes waiting for the pictures! Regards, Chris
