Any barner's using a C-TEK 40-206 battery charger/maintainer on your 6V Battery???? ALSO IF you are using ANY battery maintainer ARE YOU using the hard wire pigtail plug???? AND do you leave your cables attached with the positive ground (I don't think you can??) but IF you do how do are you?????

I use a Battery Tender Junior and have the pigtails attached to the 6 volt battery terminals. I plug it in occasionally when the battery has been sitting. It is a good indicator of when the battery is at full charge. I also make sure that the battery disconnect switch is in the off position. My switch is in the positive (ground) line.

I use a cheapy HF battery maintainer on my Yamaha 3000 generator. Leave it hooked up with a pig tail connector at all times. No problems. FWIW.

I use a Die Hard battery maintainer on my 6v positive ground with a Red Top Optima battery. I have the pigtail quick connect wired to the battery terminals and plug it in over the winter. I’ve had no problems with it and the battery is 4 years old by now.

NO shut off on the "ground side"???? Both cables attached???

Yeah. No shut off switches on the battery cables, and both cables attached.

In the Summer I don't use anything. During the winter when the car is in storage the battery comes out and goes in my cellar, I hook it up to a eBay Chinese battery maintainer and plug it in once in a while. Did the same with the 6 volt battery from my Ford 8N.

Leaving the battery cables attached while charging shouldn't be a concern. I think any 6 volt charger or maintainer is probably inputting about the same voltage (and less current) as your car's generator does every time you drive.

But I think disconnecting the battery is good insurance any time. Not due to concern with a charger/maintainer, but due to the far greater electrical potential of the battery itself.

Like Jay, if my cars are going to be sitting any length of time I take a battery cable off, only takes a half minute and you don't have to think about an electrical glitch or a fire.
