Default 1937 Radiator issue

Hey, fellas. New to the board, long time flathead fan. I've recently purchased a 37 with what I believe to be the original motor. I'm replacing the clutch and pulled the rad. Took it to my rad guy since it had a small leak at the top. He didn't want to solder it since it was a small crack that had been epoxied. Said he'd test it for me if I epoxy it but thought I'd get some advice here first. Thanks in advance, I'm retired and on a budget so please keep that in mind.

It looks like some of the cooling fins have been removed. A good radiator guy should be able to remove the epoxy and solder the tube. I'd get it rodded out, you'll be happy you did.

The '37 cooling system is not pressurized from the factory so soldering the tube should not be a problem if you keep it that way - UN-pressurized....

So, you agree that it's a 37 radiator? I think it had a 5 lb cap on it. I don't know if it's a "tube" I think it's the tank at the top of the radiator. I circled the leaking area here.

You need to do some serious straightening on those fins.

Here are a few pictures of a 37 radiator that you can use as a comparison to what you have. I can't really tell if yours is exactly like this one based on the pictures you have posted.

ps...welcome to the Fordbarn!

Looks like a match to me John, thanks. And thanks for the welcome! Now, you guys think I could clean up that corner and JB Weld it? Might not be pretty but if it's not pressurized I'd think it would solve my issue for now until I work any more kinks out of the ol' girl. That clutch chattered so bad when I got her I didn't want to go far before I got that taken care of.

Don't put a pressure cap on it and let the JB Weld do its magic....

There was a lot of epoxy. Not JB Weld, but some brittle stuff I cleaned up best I could. Then I filed and brushed the area and JB'd 'er good.
