Default I Gave Away a Fortune in Model A Engines

I recently gave away about 3 times as many engine blocks as represented in this sale. Close to $20K, at least by this fellow's calculation:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-Ford-Model...b50e91&vxp=mtr

It must go with Les Andrews Red Book on Amazon for $329.14.

Pay this no mind. Ebay is viewed as some where "the big fish live" - a concept that may have some truth attached. And you can't fault these for setting a big hook - or a big trap. Or not knowing the intelligence of the fish or the other fishermen.

I see this all the time in Marvel carburetors or their variants. Some with the necessary hex driver sell for as little as $9.99 buy it now. Other missing parts go wanting for bids at $69.95 or greater.

Ebay is truly a world of "caviet emptor" though. I marvel. The power of free enterprise truly unleashed. If I could I would buy up all the childhood toys I owned through my lifetime - but after I'm gone what would my children do with a bunch of plastic that means nothing to them - and what are they going to do with the ones that I ALREADY own and that somehow have survived?

I know - they'll put them on EBAY after my passing. They'll be RICH.

Wanna bet?

Tom, try this one

http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-Ford-Model...b50e91&vxp=mtr

I would offer him 300$ for it all but it is too far away to ship. I would like to have the flywheel more than the motors, I have a stack of them. On second thought, I have a stack of flywheels too, already cut and balanced with PP and clutch.

I still got the same message, so I did an ebay search for "6 model t" and found the listing.

I guess the guy that used to do my babbit would have been a multi-millionaire.He had over 700 engines stashed away. The cops caught a couple of kids trying to steal a couple for scrap, and woke George up to have him check if any more were missing. He wouldn't even bother driving up to the barn to look,as he put it,how would he know if a half dozen were gone?It really was a hassle trying to pick out one to have rebuilt. As Steve Ciccalonne put it,when you have a dozen to choose from you look them over and pick one. When you have hundreds to look over there is always a better one 50 feet further down the line.

Thinkin the 5 in the price is either an error or wishful thinking on the sellers part. $499 is likely top price from what I can see. If I am wrong then possibly the near 30 extra model A engins I have would easily pay off the house. Rod

Is it me or did he revise and drop his price by a thousand dollars? Was 6499, now 5499.
He is giving them away now.

Funny how we collect things we know we will never need, and count their value as if we were going to buy next week's bread with the dough.

Unfortunately I never set out to have that many engines. Two of them are from cars that belonged to my Great Grandparents, eleven of them were bought from a freind who was giving up his storage space and sold to me cheap with the agreement that if he needed any parts from the purchase the parts would be sold back to him cheap as long as I was not using them or have any plans for them. Four were diamond blocks at auctions that went under $70 each. The rest were from converted A chassis that had been made into farm equipment, sold off the other parts, just never actively persued selling the engines. Rod

I see he has an offer on them. Frankly I would take them for free only in the spirit of preservation. They're not rare, and those are rusty and nasty looking. Sure wouldn't pay to ship them anywhere. Granted, a nice standard bore block with no cracks is a nice thing if you can find them but who knows what condition these are in.

By the way Bill Williamson, where was the picture of all the engines taken? That looks like it could be a scene from Bert's Model A in Denver.
