Default 31 2 door phaeton

ok, I'm new enough to A world to have to ask, is the 30-31 2 door phaeton all steel or is it built like the 4 doors with wood structure and tin nailed over it?

To help possibly answer your question. I looked in the parts catalog from " Bert's Model A center" in Englewood Colorado. and it lists a door wood kit as the only wood parts made for the deluxe phaeton.

I agree . That is one reason that there are so few left.

It may just be urban legend, but I heard that in the early 1950's (?) a Los Angeles newspaper bought up all the Deluxe Phaetons they could find, removed the top assembly, passenger's folding seat (like in a Tudor Sedan, etc.) and rear seat bottom and backrest. The doors were WELDED shut. These vehicles were then piled high inside what was now essentially a big bath tub full of newspapers that were delivered to corner newsstands around town. This body style was relatively available in SoCal because of the weather, which is why so many were sold new there. The Deluxe Phaeton was preferred by the newspaper because it was easily converted to a "delivery truck" with lots of room for the bundled newspapers, whereas the other Model A phaetons with their fixed bench front seat metal back were not as efficiently adapted.
Odd, that no one seems to have ended up with a Deluxe Phaeton sporting doors welded to the body. Has anyone here seen this? That might help prove whether this actually happened or whether it is just an old wives' tale.
Marshall,
early and late 1931 Deluxe Phaetons

My 1928 Phaeton has 4 doors and not too much wood.
It mostly just holds the upholstery in place.

No, seems the Ford built cars had wood mostly for holding the upholstery, while the outside sourced bodies had wood for the body structure.

A & L parts sell a few reproduction items for the 2 door phaeton and they are very good quality. Dave

https://www.facebook.com/1928-1931-F...6707161069071/ Check into this site a few picture and you will find a two door phaeton with all the wood exposed. Several pictures, start to finish.
