Running Board Model A Pick-up mounting Question

Where the running board splash shields come up and meet the frame are there supposed to be screws holding the splash guard to the frame? See holes in the attached pictures.

As I recall it takes 1/4” carriage bolts.

Would a 1/4" wood screw work? It seems like a lot of work to drill and push carriage bolts through such small holes.

The splash aprons attach to the top of the frame rail, not to the body. There is a large diameter very flat carriage bolt near the top rear. I don't have any pictures to show since I lost them all in the fire.

Yes. Like Tom says, the splash aprons go over the top of the frame and bolt to the frame. I don't know if you will be able to get any short quarter inch bolts in between the body and frame. Never tried it. I always attach the running board splash aprons to the frame before mounting the body.

I do the same as Mike. You can do one side at a time by loosening the bolts on the side opposite being worked on, then you don't have to completely remove the body.

Interestingly, I have type 1 running board splash shields which are attached with 2 wood screws in the middle and rear of the splash shield. Splash shields do not reach the frame from the middle back. Posting for the benefit of others in the future. See Model A Restoration Guidelines, Area 13 page 13-10. Bob

I think you will find raising the body slightly from the frame that the running board aprons will fit easier to the rear fender and front fenders.
