Lincoln Hypoid vs Ford banjo rear
Does anyone know off hand if you can interchange Ford axle bells and axles onto a Lincoln banjo rearend of the hypoid type?
My reasoning is for a sedan delivery that will tow a trailer, I'm wondering if the stronger center section would be beneficial along with the lower ratio if mixed with an overdrive to make up the top end. The width of the Lincoln will not keep the back wheels inside the fenders as-is. Thanks for any advice.... trying to save opening it up if its a big waste of time. Zach

Re: Lincoln Hypoid vs Ford banjo rear
The shim gaskets between the bells and the center section are the same but the bells are probably longer. The Lincoln axles will be longer and maybe a little thicker, but the taper is the same. All in all you should stay with the Ford rear.

Re: Lincoln Hypoid vs Ford banjo rear
Thanks! That's what I was wondering. If I can put the ford bells and axles on the Lincoln center. Seems like it.

Re: Lincoln Hypoid vs Ford banjo rear
Seems like I remember someone saying that the bolt holes are clocked differently between the two. DD

Re: Lincoln Hypoid vs Ford banjo rear
I would wonder how easy it is t find parts for the old Lincolns. I'm sure there are still some out there but the supply might be limited on gears and ratio selections.

Re: Lincoln Hypoid vs Ford banjo rear
For example, the 40 L Z rear axle is the same width as the '40 Ford axle. The LZ spring hangers are heavy duty and use a larger size shackle & pin.
