No Start.....fuel?
Headed to the 2nd show with the 40 this am. Stopped at DD, came out, no start.
Supposed to be a 48 block, Almquist dual intake with 2 97's. There is fuel in the fuel bowl but very little in the clear inline filter just before the pump. Can I assume (I know) it's the fuel pump?? Now comes the fun part, with the early Almquist manifold, which one?? Any help greatly appreciated. I'm sure I'm going to have more questions later. Paul in CT |

Re: No Start.....fuel?
It's just a guess but my 40 has a similar problem when warm. It turns out the fuel has gotten hot and caused minor carburetor flooding. If she doesn't start on the first or second compression, I slowly push the accelerator to the floor (to hopefully avoid pumping even more fuel into the intake) and then hit the starter button. The wide open throttle plate clears the carb and she starts. This seems to work for me on the 40 and once in a while on the A if it's flooded.

Re: No Start.....fuel?
More than just the fuel pump could be the cause of no start.
Assuming anything is just a guess.

" Now comes the fun part, with the early Almquist manifold, which one??"
Can't figure what that's about?? Try priming the carb/s to see if there is indeed a fuel starvation problem. |

Re: No Start.....fuel?
I tried "drizzling" fuel into the carbs, still no start. I've located a pump close by and will try that tomorrow. "Now comes the fun part, with the early Almquist manifold, which one??" I'm wondering which pump to get?? But was assured the one the fellow has will work.
Yes, I know what "assume" means. Paul in CT |

Re: No Start.....fuel?
Picked up a pump today, going to install Wed after ck'ng the plugs.
The coil and cond have been moved and mounted above the dist near front of manifold, the gen has been moved so it's over the right head. What 6V coil/condenser from a NAPA, Advanced, O'Reillys, Auto Zone would work, just in case. Thanks again in advance. Paul in CT |

Re: No Start.....fuel?
why don't you have the original coil rebuilt and eliminate
the coil problem forever?? G.M.

Re: No Start.....fuel?
Compression blows a weak spark out, just like a candle.
You can see this on a spark plug testing machine that has compressed air hooked to it. It will fire up to say 45 lbs but go's out at higher pressure or on the car by compression. G.M.

Re: No Start.....fuel?
Changed the fuel pump, cranked it over a few times and it fired up.
Thanks, Paul in CT Possibly more questions to follow. |
