Default Now it's a oil Leak

I took my car for a 50 mile ride this weekend. Great ride- no problems. Next day I notice a rather large oil spot on the floor- looks like at least a half of quart. Took a quick look underneath and it is not the oil drain plug leaking. It always leaked, ( or marked its territory), but nothing like this. I just did change the oil- non- detergent 30 wt- (not the first time I changed it). What could have happened to cause a leak like this so quickly?

How much oil did you install? Maybe a tad too much?

That's a good question. First time I changed my oil I refilled with 5 quarts. After a short jaunt it leaked quit a bit of oil.
I learned quickly to only use 4 quarts on refill. Hope that's your problem.

Sounds like when I pushed Minervas' oil filler cap down TOO far & it couldn't vent out the crankcase pressure!

Only put 4 quarts in it. I can see it dripping down under. Just got to take the plung and get under it and follow the leak to the source. Can't be too many things down there that leak. It's not coming from the side of the motor. Oil pan, seal around crank shaft. Any thing else?

What is the oil level on the dip stick?
Is the cap on too tight as Bill suggested?

I changed the oil when I got Sarah since it was more tar coming out than oil, funny thing, once I got it liquefied again, she leaks everywhere now. She's getting an entire organ transplant over the winter.

If the source of your leak remains elusive you may have to add some fluorescent dye to the oil and trace it with a ultraviolet light.

That's what I ended up doing and found the the oil return pipe was leaking.
