Default A couple break questions

1. What is the max allowable inside diameter of the break drums? 31 coupe
2. what is the thickness of "new" break shoes including both the fiber material and the steel shoe itself. Just trying to determine what I have in the way of wear. thanks Steve

The original brake drums were 11.000 in. If they are stamped steel, they can only be turned out to 11.030 in. Late 31 cast iron drums could probably go out to 11.060.

I believe the original lining itself was only about 3/16 in thick.

I would have to measure a shoe to get the original thickness of the shoe itself but I suspect the shoe is something around .060-.080 inches but this is just a guess

Your linings should not be worn down to where the rivets will be touching the drums.

Wow, I didn't know the originals were STAMPED steel!!! Learn something all the time. By being stamped did they warp ,wear faster? I would imagine so. I guess that's why the newer cast ones are being put on.
