Default how to retain Ford '35 pu shifter

Took out the shifter to get cab off, putting it back in, seems to be in the right place and shifts gears ok...but how does it stay in there?....I don't want to just pull it out by accident

Thanks
Bob E.

Looks like you have maybe four parts missing. B-7227, B-7228, and maybe
B-7248 and B-7249

...and if the alignment pin is missing it may have fallen into the transmission, best to check before the gears find it ($$$).

I think the parts are there...I know the little pin is there and in right...Let me do more checking and thinking...does the shifter stay in there by itself?

the top washer, 7228, is bigger than the hole in the screw on cover, 7220, so it can't come out with all its correct parts

From what i see the bottom washer is now on top of spring and top washer is either in the bottom or missing.

All the washers and spring go on first with the largest washer (7228) on top. Then the 7220 cap slides down the shift lever and screws on the tower (7222) thus holding all the washers and the spring in place.
