Did anyone mention the 25 louver hood? HRP

Here is the Euro raised louvered panel hood side.

Apart from being practical for cooling purposes and ugly from an appearance perspective, 25-louver hoods are not especially rare. What are rare are the first version of the U.S. 20-louver hood side panels where all 20 louvers are open as shown below.

I would be happy to trade you a original 20 louver hood for a 25, In my humble opinion they look considerably better. HRP

To each his own. I've never owned one and have gone out of my way to avoid owning a late '32 where that hood would be appropriate plus I've no interest in modified '32s.

I have a ‘32 motor and I’m sure I could never afford the rest of a car, but I’m fascinated at the many minor changes and how much you guys know about them. Great reading! Thanks!

I've bought some single finger hood hooks from sources you guys would cringe at. Ford didn't hold the patent on those. As posted above, they made it around the world on military vehicles, as well as other passenger makes in the US. The key to deducting their Ford usage is the unique '32 base bracket.

I'd LOVE to have a pair of raised panel hood sides. I've had a couple pair of 25 louver hoods and would trade some in an instant for a raised pair. Obviously I like early '32 stuff.

Certainly though, that side panel WOULDN'T fit or match the lines of an AMERICAN deuce, would it? The cowl is totally different, especially at bottom. DD

I put one on my USA deuce bodied tudor back in the mid 1990's.Deuce -Addict chimed in .So I learned something new.I've never seen the Model 14 in France.

The one in the picture looks to be a Model 14 which drops down at the rear of the hood to meet the deeper body. A Model 14 hood would not fit a US ‘32. A UK raised louver Model B / 18 hood though is interchangeable with a US variant.

As Keith indicates, there were two different sets of hood side panels in the life of the European vehicles built on '32 chassis from '32 through '34, with the Model 14 occupying roughly the latter half of that period.


Keith has graciously reminded me that I've forgotten what's in the book and in Ford's production records. The 106" wheelbase chassis continued to be produced in Europe until January, 1936, when the last ten of them were built. My apologies for the error in the previous paragraph.

Have had a couple of questions on the English '32 steering wheels. The below pics show their construction via the restoration process. In essence;

- a steel tube rim later dipped and coated in a plastic derived material which whilst soft is embossed for grip
- cast aluminium 'spider' centre which again is coated and held onto the rim by 3 self tapping screws

That's the type of steering wheel I have on Old Rusty. The spokes have lost their coating, though so are left in bare aluminium.

I really like the look and feel of the English steering wheel, having had the pleasure of driving my friend Janne Ryden’s 32 across Sweden and Norway last summer and in 2017 to the V8 meets.
Tried to find one to take home and put on my own 32 but no luck finding the 3 spoke wheel. Thank goodness that Michael Driscoll now has the new North American style steering wheels available. I’m very satisfied with these new wheels!
