I thought the door lock should have the same keying as the ignition switch and the glove compartment should be the same as the trunk handle. Maybe you just need a little lubrication to free up the lock cylinder, like graphite powder.

This is one solution. Open passenger door and look at the edge of door. Below the screw that holds the exterior door handle on. Below that screw is a small hole, use a light to see inside. There should be an Alan head screw or a common head screw. Take the screw out and you can pull the lock set out. You can replace it with a new one. To put it back in you will need to take the door panel off so you can feed the square shaft from the lock set through door lock mechanism. The new will come longer than needed and you will to cut it flush with the mechanism. Good luck

Thanks, the ignition is after market so key is not original. I have the one for trunk & glove compartment. Neither of the keys I have will fit the door lock.

Prior owner is a dealer & he never got one.

I just poked at a map. I’m in Ellensburg wa. And you are pretty close to Grants pass. Bob Drakes is there and they have the lock with two keys for 36.00. I just put one in my 40 coupe.

Be sure to use a good penetrant on the lock retaining screw before trying to remove it. Some of those can be pretty stubborn.

You can also have a key made for your existing lock cylinder rather than replacing it with a reproduction. Keep it original if you can, someday you may want to fix the ignition to use an original style key.

The original door lock cylinder has a key code stamped on it. If you remove the cylinder you can have another key made for it.

There is an easier method to replace the door lock cylinder, no need to remove the door panel.
There should be a small indent on the end of the door lock shaft.
Using a long thin needle/wire, push it through the interior panel so it comes thru the door lock hole on the outside. Place the needle in the indent and push the lock in and the needle out at the same time.
Yup, you're right....not easy...may take a few attempts an some choice words
Easier then removing the door panel
Once the lock is out....I can cut the key to the code.
Not till April Tho !!!

Phil, I replaced my door lock cylinder several years ago and resigned to having to use 2 different keys. Is there such a thing as getting a key that would also work on the ignition cylinder without having to take the ignition out to have this done? Terry

A locksmith should be able to rekey the tumblers in your door locks to match the ignition key. Phil would know.

32 Phil sold me a new NOS lock with the tumblers on the door lock to match the ignition key. He needed the number stamped on the ignition lock to match them up. All I had to do was remove the ignition lock and give him the lock number.

When you reinstall the door lock, put a couple of drops or wax from a candle on the U joint of the square shaft on the lock. This allows you to insert the lock in the door and get the square shaft to go through the right place. The first time you use the lock the wax just falls off inside the door. Another barn member told me about this and it worked well.

Went with plan 'a', locksmith. Thanks for all the suggestions but sometimes I get tired & leave it to the pro's.
