Default Very Early Zenith Carb. ??

Is this one considered the Very Early Style Carb. I cant find any pictures of another one with a Z on the back side of it and no marks on the front. The paint on the base section is Original Factory and shows many runs and drips from the dipping of it which has been glass beaded and does not like to come off like todays paint. Its VERY tough stuff what ever they used..

Earliest were double venturi with a Z on upper throat & Zenith on bowl. Next came Holly version of this double venturi marked H.
Carbs were not painted but had a dull black finish which had bitumen in it I think ; fuel resistant. After 90 odd years, most carbs would be mixed & matched to keep working as dirty fuel was an on going issue in old days. The venturi metal [pot] would swell over the years making fit a problem which was the fate of my all original carb until an aluminium separate one was fitted.

Looking like later carb throttle valve.

Here is the early version throttle.

IIRC, these are brass.

The paint is usually a shellac - resistant to gasoline - which then like today IS tough stuff. Back then it was a REAL lacquer - made from the excretion of beetles.

What FM shows is indeed the first generation Zenith carburetor. It has the raised "Z" on the throat of the upper back as well as single dowel pinned lower. On mine, both the throttle shaft assembly and choke lever are forged steel.
