Re: Generator Belt Listing by Length
Rockauto.com have industrial belts listed by length. Early flatheads can use the b series belts, normally a 52 or 53 or 54.
The number is lower than the length. (Or something like that). Actually, according to the site linked below, For a B series belt, the length is measured in mm, then has 43mm reduced from it and is then converted to inches. It is then rounded up or down depending on what adjustment is available. If you want to work in inches 43mm = 1.7 inches. http://www.beltingonline.com/vee-and...g-v-belts-591/ Mart. |

Re: Generator Belt Listing by Length
The attached table gives the "B" series belt length for the early Fords (mentioned in post #2). I get these belts from NAPA.

Re: Generator Belt Listing by Length
It is important to know when replacing belts on an early Ford that the correct belts have a different pitch and cross section than ordinary off the rack vee belts. The right belts ride up in the pulley groove, and when correctly tensioned they don't reach the bottom of the groove. Ordinary belts usually must be overtightened to prevent slippage which, in turn places strain on water pump and generator bushings. The belt for your '34 is 40-8620. We buy ours from C&G. There is a reason they are more expensive than common vee belts.

Re: Generator Belt Listing by Length
When I wrote my reply above, from memory I sort of recalled the 3" anomaly between the belt length and the belt number. It is at odds with the 43mm quoted in the site listed in my post.
I'll stick to inches. Mart. |
