Default 1932 Shifter and brake boots question

I should know this, but...

For my '32 RPU with wood floor, I've never been clear on how the rubber boots for gear shifter and emergency brake lever go on. Do the rubber flanges go: 1. under the floorboard, 2. go on top but under the mat/carpet, 3. or sit on top of the carpet? Are they tacked down to the floor or fastened somehow?

Had the same question when I owned a '34.

Maybe it's just my repos, but the flange on my shifter boot seems pretty thick to just sit there. It lifts front or back with every shift.

The one for the e-brake was so tight (even with some soapy solution) that it was near impossible to get over the top when I wanted to take it off the handle. I ended up cutting the backside so I could get it on and off, but I'm still not clear how it's supposed to fit to the floor. Tempted to hand-sew a black vinyl boot for that one.

Voices of experience welcome.

I believe to be correct....Neither! I think your p/u left the factory without either part. Some folks do use them though. Nice truck by the way! Pat

Nor did your '34 have them originally.

Makes sense why they don't fit well. :-) Thanks!

Wasn't the 39 Mercury the first and only Ford product to use a shift boot? Seems I ran across that factoid when I had my 39 Mercury coupe.

Yep...long ago when I first started learning about old Fords, all the catalogs offered "32-39" shift boots...which carried a 99A part number.

E-brake one will go. I put mine in hot water for awhile and use dry silicone.
I have made my own cover plates on my 32's. But they are hot rods!
