Default 1929 Special coupe: easy way to move seat back 1.5 inches

While thinking about moving my couple's seat rearward, both back and bottom, I saw that theres a wood piece at the front of the deck and it has the same two slots to engage the seat back brackets as the deck. The slots are 1.5 inches apart front to back. Was it Ford's intention that by removing this board the seat back could be adjusted to the rear 1.5 inches or did someone add this board?
Also, if the seat back is adjusted to the rear at the top could it also be adjusted to the rear at the bottom by bending up some new brackets? It seems an easy way to get a little more room. It still won't do nothing about getting my size 12EEE feet through the door, though.

I believe this is described in the Service Bulletins.

So, for those of us who don't have the service bulletins, what do they say? I have the same problem with my special coupe. In fact I'm trying to sell it so I can buy a sedan because it's so hard for my 6'3" frame to get in an out, especially 'cuz my knees don't bend like they used to.

Another option, also discussed in that thread, is to go with shorter springs or less padding in the back rest of the seat.

I did just as the bulletin suggests and boy what a difference. It is much easier to get my feet on the pedals. I am only 5'10" but still had to struggle for leg room. Now if I can just get the brake and clutch pedal heights to match.

Just a thought...

If the movement of the package tray as mentioned in previous posts is an option, and an easy fix for you, make the adjustments and see how it fits
for you and your driving comfort style. If the change doesn't work, it could easily be changed back.

I have the same problem with my tourer. infact I don't use it much because of the difficulty in getting in and out. I thought I might remove the rear row of springs in the seat and shorten it. I figure it's too long anyway. has anyone done this????

I haven't gotten to that stage yet, but have heard that some of the suppliers of seat springs can make them shorter upon request when buying new springs.

I did like the bulletin suggests on my 29 std coupe except I only lengthen out the bottom brackets. I did not cut the package tray back. It did help with my 6'2" frame but it still could have more room.

i don't want to hijack this thread, but I have a similar issue. I need to reinstall the wood piece on the package tray (my legs are short). I don't have the hardware book, so can someone tell me what screws (length, screw size, etc) are used to attach the wood to the tray. Also, I don't have the seat back cushion brackets, part A-47942-B. Is that part reproduced? If so, where can I purchase these brackets? I will call Bert's to see if they have these parts. Thanks for any info (if I should start a new thread for this, let me know and I will.)
