Default Tudor Top Swap

In 1966 I bought my first Model A a '29 Tudor. To make a long story short, before I could reassemble an off frame restoration everything except the chassis and body was stollen (doors, gas tank, fenders, etc.). Now it is time to ressurect that car.

Here's my thought. My original Tudor was well rusted in the subframe, wheel wells and rear seat areas. The cowl and upper body were perfect. I have another Tudor body that has a near perfect lower body. How difficult is it to top swap?

The Tudor body (#2) is very nice and in the least I would use the cowl section from my high school Tudor (I'm sentimental). However, the top section is so nice and has the oak bows that I made as 17 year old. If possible I would like to use the top section. I just need some guidance. Has anyone ever heard of doing this? Any personal experience to draw from?

Thanks in advance.

They do the same thing anytime they chop A top. If you're handy with bodywork, not a big deal.

Dean, if I am correct the top of the body is bolted to the bottom part but is also spot welded in several places. These spot welds would pose the most problem since they would be difficult to get to. I believe the job you propose would be do able with a little patience and simple tools.

Default can be done.

I recall seeing photos of a 400-A that was put together from 2 bodies- one was completely rusted out at the bottom and the other was badly damaged on top.

both bodies were cut in half horizontally and the good halves put together.
it's an ambitious project and way beyond my skills or desire, but it can certainly be done. take lots of photos for us if you do it!

Swapping the top is not a big deal. I changed lower quarters on the delivery. Same panels. You can look in my picture albums for some hints as to what you are getting into. Rod
