Commerical Head lights
I'm building a 30 CCPU and have a friend that has a pair of these head lights.
What's the difference? Thank you for your time Terry aka dirt t |

Re: Commerical Head lights
Although some 1930 CCPU owners like to "dress up" the pickup by using passenger car stainless steel 1930-31 headlamps, the factory commercial issue was a painted black headlamp shell with the same stainless rim to hold the lens as the passenger car had.

Re: Commerical Head lights
And since the CCPU didn't have cowl lights each reflector had places for 2 bulbs (like the standard passenger cars).

And, the commercial headlight buckets are not stainless steel.

Re: Commerical Head lights
There are stainless shells out there that were factory painted black. I have seen 2 pairs.

For the 28-29, imperfect plating was a reason to relegate parts to the commercial line - painted black to cover the imperfection. And, IIRC, the black wiring "conduit" were only used on 1930 & beyond AA production, and not even all of that. Joe K

Re: Commerical Head lights
I have a pair of 1930 Commercial headlight buckets. Unfortunately right now I can only put my hands on one of them.

Re: Commerical Head lights
When I got my 30 Pickup, changed the Stainless headlight buckets, radiator shell, to black, along with fabric conduits, Although many trucks have Cowl Lights, and stainless headlight buckets and radiatiator shell, I guess each there own likes.

Re: Commerical Head lights
You didn't ask but here's a little more 30-31 pickup info. Taillight bucket, radiator shell and cowl band also are painted black. All are plain steel, not stainless, although the taillight has a stainless rim same as passenger. The shell is straight across the top below the badge - doesn't have the "widow's peak" like passenger. AFAIK, the badge and crank-hole cover are the same as passenger.
Seems most pickups have been "upgraded" with bright passenger parts - so much so that the painted commercial parts are hard to find. |

Right you are. I even started a thread on it a while back (https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...ghlight=pickup) and still got confused - hey, I'm old! It also should be noted this applies to trucks after the mid-30 changeover from the 28-29 style. Thanks for the correction. |

Re: Commerical Head lights
The shells are unpolished stainless. The stainless virgin cross grain has never been buffed out. The shell is painted black over the stainless. the black paint is "under" the riveted bracket. |

Re: Commerical Head lights
It’s hard to tell in photo but the stainless has never been buffed.

Re: Commerical Head lights
Someone said the cowl band on a 30-31 commercial is painted black. Would that be true for a Panel truck 1931???

Re: Commerical Head lights
The Standards say it was painted body color but deluxe models would be stainless.
