Default Paint Protection Question

As we all know, most modern paints contain isocyanates and require respirator protection. A fresh air respirator is the ideal recommendation but costs $400 plus dollars, beyond the budget of many. If you have recently painted one with modern paint did you have a fresh air or supplied air respirator or did you use an alternate form of protection. I see the label on the Gerson signature Respirator Nr95 (maintenance free) says its safe for paint with isocyanates What did/do you use when painting? All input is welcome. Thanks .
