My Bad
I have been trying for some time to get a speeding ticket while driving my 1928 Tudor. I think it would look good framed in my 'man cave'. Despite passing police cars at speeds well over the limit, all I have got so far is a cheery wave.
Is this a common experience? By the way, I have been driving for over 50 years and have had only three tickets, one of which was for speeding, the others for illegal turns. But this one I want. |

But seriously, I bet at least half of us have had the same thought - just never acted on it!! Such a lawless bunch of renegades. |

Re: My Bad
Like a friend of mine... got a 120 + something ticket near Moab. Officer took it very seriously, as did the court. Friend has the ticket framed and displays it with his 53 Stude at car shows. Says it's the only 'award' his Stude has received.

Re: My Bad
I've gotten a written warning from a state trooper for doing a U-turn in an intersection out in the middle of nowhere. Litterally I was the only one at this intersection on this country road, and he just happened to come up the hill I just came up about 20 seconds after I did. Just in time to see me coming back the other direction. I think he just needed something to do, because I went as far as to cross the intersection go into the shoulder and do a 3 point turn then head back the other direction.

Re: My Bad
You could lose the right to have antique car insurance and you could get in an accident. Maybe it's time to rethink what you are after.

Re: My Bad
A couple of years back while I was driving the highway I got a call on the two-way radio from my friend who was travelling ahead of me and said you better slow down unless you want your photo taken by a speed camera. I replied jokingly that it was my life long ambition to get a speeding ticket in my Model A. And almost immediately a reply came back from the police car, "I can oblige if you like" I quickly declined the offer, but it was nice of him to offer.

Re: My Bad
Buy one of those "Bad Cop--No Donut!" bumper stickers! You'll be a pedestrian by tomorrow afternoon...
I remember a cartoon of a hotrodder in a '34 Ford pulled over by a cop in Hot Rod Magazine in the mid '50's..."Excuse me, Sir, I need to go back to my car for another book of tickets." |

"Try waving back with just one finger. "
I could be mistaken on this but isn't the one finger wave the All-American symbol for friend?

Re: My Bad
I received a speeding ticket in 1962 for "DOING in EXCESS of 120 MPH" in my little 55 ford ! Kept it for many years until my children started to drive then I made it disappear. The Texas State trooper and the Judge were both not very happy either.....
Nowadays I am the guy holding up traffic I guess? |

Re: My Bad
Go for a photo ticket. In MD, they only cost you money, no points. Not sure if insurance ever finds out. We typically know where they are, so you could get one easily.
I am very careful, but got one in my Miata the other day. They ticket you at 12 over and I was going exactly 12 over.... |

Re: My Bad
I got pulled over for doing (using the officer's words) "Mach 45" on the freeway. However, it was 0200 hrs, nobody else for miles, and I was keeping an eye open for deer. He didn't write me up, but suggested I try to go a little faster, maybe 55 MPH just in case a truck driver comes up behind me and isn't paying attention. I think he really just wanted to check out my car close up.
As for TRYING to get a speeding ticket... That may not be the brightest thing you ever do in your Model A. As pointed out above, it could lead to points on driving record, increased (or cancelled) insurance, etc. I like the idea of photoshopping yourself a "trophy" ticket for the wall. Much safer for all parties involved! |

Re: My Bad
Yeah it seems tickets start around that number here in Washington too. Probably to address their always present budget shortfalls and overspending! Thankfully the last and only ticket I ever got was nearly 13 years ago in North Dakota, and it cost me $26 for going 81 in a 70 on the interstate. To think I was upset about that number! I was a poor college student though at the time..Since I fly airplanes for a living tickets are generally frowned upon in a big way. You're expected to disclose them and talk about ANY tickets in any job interview you might have. Funny thing is I was interviewing for a small commuter airline and when I told the chief pilot that yes, I had a speeding ticket on this date and he said "well that's ok, I wouldn't hire you if you didn't have any" I got the job but a week later Delta Airlines cancelled their ongoing contract and they went out of business before I could start training there.
