Default '35 pickup gas tank mounting

I bought a new tank for my '35 pickup but I need to verify the mounting bolts. It has been quite some time since I removed the old tank and I had some 'help' during that process.

Anyway, during de-construction, I bagged up two bolts that are the same size and one longer bolt with a spring and a nut. I THINK the two bolts go on the passenger side and bolt into the captive nuts on the tank and the spring loaded bolt goes on the driver's side in the middle hole. Does this sound correct?

Thanks,
Heard

Yes, that's correct. The tank rests on top of the frame rails cushioned by a strip of rubber under each flange. Regular frame webbing should work as well as rubber.

The tank should also have cage nuts on the flange. The single cage nut on the one side gets the bolt with the spring.

Can you post a pic or two when you get it sorted Heard? I'm going to be doing the same thing soon, but my frame is aftermarket and missing some of the holes... Would be good to see the original.

Well, I had that backwards. 2 bolts on the driver's side and one on the passenger side. I should have looked at the old tank and it would have been clear. The old cage nut came off, thus the nut on the long, spring loaded bolt. Makes sense now.

The Drake replacement tank is made the same way as the original.

Mike, I can take a few measurements if you need them.

Here's a good look at the bolts, spring and captive nuts.

Pics are worth a thousand words again. I should be good on measurements, downloaded a drawing with dims for all that. These help though. Thanks!

Don: you're the expert but that isn't a 35-36 PICKUP GAS TANK.

Heard, there's a little hump on the inner strengthener on the frame adjacent to the long bolt with the spring. That allows you to safety wire the bolt to the frame to prevent it coming undone. There is one on the later frames, I assume yours has it too.

Mart.

Lawson..............I have a great picture of a pickup tank, but it didn't show the mounting hardware!!!!!!! Correct me if I'm wrong, but the mounting hardware is identical for both pickup and passenger car gas tanks.
