Rear lift 49 Ford
Hi,
Anyone know of a source for a set of extended rear shackles for a 49 Ford coupe? I would like to bring it up a couple of inches in the rear. The ones on it now are 5". Thanks in advance for any help. |

Re: Rear lift 49 Ford
The longer shackles will probably look childish/hokey . You would be better off taking the springs out and having a spring shop re-arch them , or add a leaf in each one .
just tell them how far you want to bring the rear up , they will know what to do . This way would also be much safer than longer , flimsy shackles . JMHO - F F |

Re: Rear lift 49 Ford
I agree on the advice to get the springs re-arched. I have done this in the past with good results. I've also driven cars with extended shackles and they are not safe. The rear end will float side to side when turning with the high extended height you're looking for.

Couldn't you add a spacer block between the spring plates and the spring.

Re: Rear lift 49 Ford
Since the rear is mounted midway or slightly towards the front of the spring you only get half or less the length of the shackle in lift. So if you wanted 2 inches lift you would need to add 4 or more inch length to your present shackles. Better to do it with the springs. JMO

Re: Rear lift 49 Ford
I flipped the shackles on my high school '54 Ford, common on cars with similar rear spring setups.
