Extended Cab Pickup
I love the look of the Model A pickup, but at 6'4" and 265 lbs. I am more than realistic to know that I just won't fit comfortably. So...just dreaming...has anyone every attempted to make an extended cab pickup by adding sheet metal behind the doors or by piecing in the window section of a coupe?

Re: Extended Cab Pickup
Maybe Denis4X4 will chime in. His avatar looks like a pickup that has had the cab extended. Given enough time and money, anything is possible!

Re: Extended Cab Pickup
Snyder's sells the Extended Cab pickup. The other vendors may as well. An extra 6" has been added to the quarter panels between the back of the door and the back of the cab. Still uses stock 30-31 doors. The bed is modified to mate to the extended cab pick-up body. It is pricey.

Re: Extended Cab Pickup
Otherwise a Fordor or Tudor is easy enough to move the seat back to give good driver room. I'm 6' 4" 240lb and can drive my Fordor comfortably after I moved the seat back and bent the shifter to the right. I have tried the pickup. Mission Impossible! I saw a pickup at a show once that had been extended 6 inches or so. The guy had done a beautiful job and there was lots of room but it really didn't look right. He had left the doors standard, I think if you extended the doors it would look better.

Re: Extended Cab Pickup
At Pomona show several years ago there was a huge extended 29 Pickup in purple. The driver's seat was way back in the ab. My son and I wanted it for him. He was 6'8" and 280#.

Re: Extended Cab Pickup
If you want an extended cab pick up you could add the rear panel from a tudor to the back of a couple then add a box.

Re: Extended Cab Pickup
You can purchase 28-29 cab corners from most vendors. Mine are 6-1/2” extensions. Not all that difficult and far easier that cutting up another A. Only challenge is the roof wood . I used white oak and flattened the contour somewhat. Flat bed with a locker turned out to be more practable than a regular PU bed

Check out Brookville Roadster in Ohio. They have lots of sheet metal for Model A pick ups.

Re: Extended Cab Pickup
I had a cab that was built with a slant W/S cowl, and what I think were 400A doors. It did have a 30-31 pickup cab back on it.It had quite a bit more room with the longer doors.I traded it off to a street rodder because I didn't like the idea of a shorter bed than the A already has.I see it running around in the summers,it is a nice looking little hot rod.

If I were doing it, I would section a pair of doors vertically (-cut one door 1-1.5" past vertical centerline, and cut the other door by the same amount in the opposite direction vertically) which would add two or three inches in the door length to assist with egress & ingress too. I would probably use a set of Vicky doors to scale off of. I believe that 2-3 inches of length would be enough for you to be comfortable Gordon if the seats were upholstered correctly, and look much more factory built. What would really be unique is to mount that cab on a AA truck chassis with softened springs, a built Model-A engine, and a 5 or 6 speed Tremec transmission. With that cab on a big chassis, I doubt many would ever pick up on the cab modification, and it would motor right on down the highway. |

Re: Extended Cab Pickup
I think it would look more natural if you stretched it and also stretch the box in a similar proportion. May be a 6ft box

Here is a photo of a truck from PA that was at the 2010 model A new england meet. Slightly extended for the very tall young man who did it.

Re: Extended Cab Pickup
I'd do like what Brent mentioned, lengthen the doors along with the subframe. Lengthen the bed to keep it proportioned to match the cab and either get AA frame or build a heavier and longer frame. Model A's are easy to stretch with a lot of straight pieces like the frame, windows, etc. I saw a pickup this year at the pancake breakfast done that way.

Re: Extended Cab Pickup
Grandpa needed the room also. Not because he was tall. He was round. I am glad he did because at 6' 2" it is comfortable for me.
